Mayweather-Mosley Trade Words Face To Face on HBO

Mayweather vs Mosley - To further hype their welterweight mega-fight on May 1 in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather and WBA champion Shane Mosley sat down with HBO's Max Kellerman to tape a face to face segment where both fighters would speak on a variety of topics from their decade long rivalry. Kellerman brought up last September's verbal confrontation between the fighters, which took place when Mosley entered the ring after Mayweather won a decision over Juan Manuel Marquez.

After watching Manny Pacquiao utterly dominate Joshua Clottey last Saturday, the sports world has turned it's attention to the future for the Filipino sensation. Now that I've digested Pacquiao's performance - which more closely resembled a Class B Felony than a boxing match - I'm now convinced, more than ever, that he and Floyd Mayweather must enter the ring together sometime this fall. It just has to happen. Right now, Mayweather is busy preparing for his May 1 bout with "Sugar" Shane Mosley, but he is never above discussing Pacquiao. If Mayweather beats Mosley - as virtually everyone agrees he will - the only fight of any magnitude left for either man is one that includes the other. Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach clearly want that fight, the sports world wants that fight and most importantly, boxing needs that fight.

Earlier today, two members of Team Mayweather reached out to BoxingScene.com to set the record straight regarding an alleged interview circulating all over the internet with Floyd Mayweather Jr. From what I was told, the interview, which calls Pacquiao a one-dimensional fighter and downplays his performance against Joshua Clottey - is 100% fabricated. The interview first originated on a website called Cage Report. Numerous websites and overseas newspapers have used quotes from the interview.

The Hollywood sun was peeking in thinly despite the drawn shades and it momentarily risked illuminating Boxing’s brightest star even more so than was already the case. His shadowboxing began with the absence of any shadows early in this training camp. I stood transfixed by his movements. It was not the first time I’ve been afforded the privilege of watching Pacquiao at work but I was indeed stuck with a new sense of awe at the specimen he’s become over the last four years.

Tickets for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title showdown between Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Joshua Clottey of Ghana are selling briskly despite the tickets’ stiff prices.

The top seat tickets cost $700 while other tickets are being peddled for $500, $400, $300, $200, $100, and $50, something Arum believes will entice fight fans to fill the reconfigured (45,000-capacity) Cowboys Stadium on fight night.

Roach said Pacquiao followed the game plan well during the four-round sparring session. He also said Brooks was hurt a few times while sparring with the pound-for-pound king. “[Pacquiao] did really well. He’s already following the game plan.

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao began sparring in the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California on Thursday. Under the guidance of trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao sparred with Bryan Brooks in four rounds. Pacquiao dished out a beating to Brooks, who was used by Shane Mosley as a sparring partner in the past. Roach says Pacquiao did some real damage in the four rounds of sparring. He battered Brooks good. The hall-of-fame trainer doesn't see Brooks coming back as a sparring partner in the future. “[Pacquiao] did really well. He’s already following the game plan. This was a good sparring partner for Shane Mosley but I don’t think I’m going to bring him back… he got hurt a few times. Manny was too much for him,” Roach said to ABS CBN News.

The World Boxing Council has named pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao as "The Boxer of the Year" following his devastating victories over Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton and WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto last year. WBO Welterweight title challenger Joshua Clottey has received the full backing of his countrymen ahead of March 13’s big fight against Manny Pacquiao. Clottey goes into the fight as a huge underdog against the man who has won seven world titles in seven weight categories but Ghanaian boxing chiefs led by former world champion Azumah Nelson have reposed a huge confidence in the 32 year old Joshua Clottey. “My fear is that Manny Pacquiao is a southpaw because they are hard to fight but Joshua has given us an assurance that he knows how to fight southpaws so I am relieved. I will advise Joshua to train hard but I know him and I know that he will not rest.

The Pacquiao vs Clottey March 13 fight has the golden chance of breaking the record for the biggest attendance in a covered arena in the United States as it has sold more than 20,000 tickets in just four days. “The public response is just unbelievable,” said Top Rank Promotions spokesman Lee Samuels from Las Vegas. “We are happy to report that since ticket sales started last Saturday [January 23] more than 20,000 tickets have been snapped up by boxing fans.” Most of the tickets already sold were the expensive ones, Samuels said—those in the $100, $200, $300 up to the most expensive $700 ringside seats.

Roach acknowledges the great work done over the past two years by conditioning coaches Alex Ariza and Teri Tom, who have created a dynamic programme for Pacquiao based on sports science technology. Roach revealed that the ’secret’ to Pacman’s great physique is the science, nutrition and work ethic combined, a combination of analysis, genetics and sweat and spit. It wasn't too long ago when we were hearing about how Pacquiao conditioning coach Alex Ariza slapped some manners into adviser Michael Koncz. And it wasn't too long ago when we were watching HBO 24/7 and witnessed Freddie Roach and Koncz showing their dislike for one another. In the previous training camp there were several incidents that took place that created a lot of bad blood within the team. It appears as if in this camp for Joshua Clottey the storms have subsided. Although it's still early, so far there have been no internal issues, no slapping, no public jabbing at one another, and no major distractions. Recently famed trainer Freddie Roach told this writer that the camp is getting off to a good start, " So far so good. Manny is in pretty good shape right now, we will get sparring started a little earlier this time around because camp is a little bit shorter than normal." Clottey Tabs Former Trainer Godwin Kotey for Pacquiao Fight

The two will reunite for March 13. Joshua Clottey is going back to former trainer Godwin Kotey of Ghana for his March 13 date with Manny Pacquiao. It's been nearly six years since the two last worked together but they'll be reuniting for this fight.

"Godwin is a very famous trainer in Ghana," said Vinny Scolpino, manager of Clottey. "This is the trainer Joshua has been asking for to prepare for Pacquiao. It will be Godwin who puts together our game plan."

2010 can possibly go down as the greatest year for Manny Pacquiao’s boxing career. In one calendar year, Pacquiao can defeat another solid opponent, destroy Mayweather Jr in the “Fight of the Century”, and cement his legacy as one of the Greatest Boxers of All-Time.

Ormoc prizefighter eyeing bout in Pacquiao-Clottey undercard

ORMOC CITY—A local boxer might play undercard between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey in March. Promoters are considering rising star Jhunriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero as one of the featured attractions of the much-awaited bout in Dallas, Texas, on March 13 after he won a major fight last month. This was bared by councilor Ruben Capahi, chairman of the committee on sports, when Casimero came home recently and received a hero’s welcome from Ormocanons led by Mayor Eric Codilla. He was taken on a motorcade around downtown, and shook hands and signed autographs at the public market and police station.
