Mayweather-Mosley Trade Words Face To Face on HBO

Mayweather vs Mosley - To further hype their welterweight mega-fight on May 1 in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather and WBA champion Shane Mosley sat down with HBO's Max Kellerman to tape a face to face segment where both fighters would speak on a variety of topics from their decade long rivalry. Kellerman brought up last September's verbal confrontation between the fighters, which took place when Mosley entered the ring after Mayweather won a decision over Juan Manuel Marquez.

Why Pacquiao - Mayweather Is Important for Boxing

After watching Manny Pacquiao utterly dominate Joshua Clottey last Saturday, the sports world has turned it's attention to the future for the Filipino sensation. Now that I've digested Pacquiao's performance - which more closely resembled a Class B Felony than a boxing match - I'm now convinced, more than ever, that he and Floyd Mayweather must enter the ring together sometime this fall. It just has to happen. Right now, Mayweather is busy preparing for his May 1 bout with "Sugar" Shane Mosley, but he is never above discussing Pacquiao. If Mayweather beats Mosley - as virtually everyone agrees he will - the only fight of any magnitude left for either man is one that includes the other. Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach clearly want that fight, the sports world wants that fight and most importantly, boxing needs that fight.

Team Mayweather: Floyd Did Not Watch Pacquiao's Fight

Earlier today, two members of Team Mayweather reached out to BoxingScene.com to set the record straight regarding an alleged interview circulating all over the internet with Floyd Mayweather Jr. From what I was told, the interview, which calls Pacquiao a one-dimensional fighter and downplays his performance against Joshua Clottey - is 100% fabricated. The interview first originated on a website called Cage Report. Numerous websites and overseas newspapers have used quotes from the interview.

Promoter's anger at MGM/Mirage could keep Manny Pacquiao out of Las Vegas

Pacquiao vs Clottey - The animosity that exists between Manny Pacquiao's promoter, Bob Arum, and Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s camp extends to MGM/Mirage, the company that operates the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. That arena will be dark Saturday night, when it could have been the site of Pacquiao's world welterweight title defense against Joshua Clottey. In an interesting column Thursday by The Times' Bill Dwyre, Arum addressed his anger at Mayweather promoter Golden Boy Promotions and at MGM/Mirage, which has staged several of Oscar De La Hoya's bouts as a fighter and as a promoter, including the upcoming April 3 fight between Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. and the May 1 Mayweather vs Mosley bout.

He Might Be Too Big For Pacquiao: The Case For A Joshua Clottey Win

Pacquiao vs Clottey - Four words. In the end, what happens in this fight will come down to four words: Is he too big? Aside from bulk and strength, what does Joshua Clottey have that can beat Manny Pacquiao on March 13th? In order to make a case for Clottey -- which I’ll now try to do -- you have to make it backwards, thinking in terms of the negative factors that Manny Pacquiao will have to overcome instead of any offensive attributes that Clottey may have.

Joshua Clottey Hopes to Turn “The Event” Into “The Upset”

Pacquiao vs Clottey - It was just a few short months ago when boxing seemed on the verge of getting what it always wanted: a super fight of epic proportions between the two top pound-for-pound fighters in the world of boxing in Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather All roads had led to this exciting match up; they had common opponents, had publicly spoken about fighting each other and flew through initial negotiations with reported ease. But then a sport-changing thing happened. In reaction to Pacquiao’s grandiose (some say grotesque) demand that Mayweather,

Pacquiao-Clottey: The People’s Eyebrow

Prior to the 2001 baseball season, baseball pundits and fans alike could reasonably conclude the following about Barry Bonds:

1.) Barry Bonds was an exceptional baseball player

2.) Barry Bonds was physically achieving what many people thought impossible for someone his age, but as suspect of an achievement as it may have been, it was still explainable and therefore celebratory.

Then, the 2001 season happened. Bonds hit 24 more homers than the previous season and broke Mark McGwire’s single season record. He batted .328 with 137 RBI’s and a slugging pct. of .863, an astounding accomplishment for a 36-year-old. At an age where most players’ statistics begin to plummet, he rewrote the baseball record books. The 2001 season was so disproportionate to his previous achievements that it served as an “eye brow raiser.” At that time there wasn’t any conclusive evidence linking Bonds to steroids, but when you looked at the numbers, his age and what he achieved, you at least raised an eye brow.

Roach says Pacquiao to retire early next year

Pacquiao vs Clottey – Trainer Freddie Roach wants Manny Pacquiao at most to fight twice more and be out of the ring for good by early next year. He told the Washington Post’s Michael Leahy in an interview that he wanted Pacquiao to end his storied career with health intact and not run the risk of ever suffering like he does from Parkinson’s disease. One fight is coming Saturday, a defense of Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title against a tough but little-known Ghanian Joshua Clottey. The next fight as Roach sees it, would be one of the most ballyhooed, most profitable, most contentious fights in boxing history: Pacquiao against the gifted, flighty and undefeated Floyd Mayweather with whom negotiations for a bout have collapsed once before. The fight could bring each man $30 million, Leahy wrote.

Joshua Clottey ready to follow hometown heroes when he fights Manny Pacquiao

Pacquiao vs Clottey - Bukom, in Jamestown, on the outskirts of the country's capital Accra, is an area known to all Ghanaians. It is a slum, and yet the small number of criss-crossed dusty streets in the port town have spawned a succession of world-class fighters over several decades. Clottey follows in the tradition of the great Azumah Nelson, arguably the best boxer to come from Africa, who defeated Wilfredo Gómez in the Eighties and held the World Boxing Council title at feather and super-featherweight, and Ike Quartey, the welterweight from the mid-Nineties, who fought, and lost, to Oscar de la Hoya. They all hail from those tough streets. The people of this tiny shanty are renowned as warriors throughout Ghana. Clottey remembers when, as a youngster, he was beaten up in a street fight by the local bully. Until then, football had been his game, his precious football boots lovingly polished.

Boxing Writers Name Pacquiao 'Fighter of the Year' and 'Fighter of the Decade'

The prestigious Boxing Writers Association of America has named pound-for-pound king and Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao as the 2009 “Fighter of the Year” and capped the choice by also naming the superstar of the sport as the “Fighter of the Decade” effectively silencing the few who have dared to slander him and question his achievements in the ring by alleging he is on performance enhancing drugs without providing a shred of evidence. Pacquiao was earlier named "Fighter of the Year" for 2009 by both Ring Magazine and ESPN. Pacquiao continued his sensational winning streak by scoring a devastating 2nd round knockout over IBO light welterweight champion Ricky

Roach: No way Clottey will win

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao’s chief trainer Freddie Roach said Joshua Clottey has zero chance of beating the Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao when they collide on March 13 (March 14 in Manila) at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Speaking from the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, Los Angeles, Freddie Roach said he has studied Clottey’s style and sees nothing special in the Ghanaian that would enable him to win against Pacquiao. “I’ve seen tapes of him (Clottey). He’s not good.

Roach now says ward Pacquiao will KO Clottey

Two weeks into their training camp, trainer Freddie Roach is singing a different tune in his forecast of the fate that awaits Joshua Clottey against his prized ward Manny Pacquiao in their showdown on March 13. “Manny will knock him out," Roach said in a TV interview with GMA News, changing his earlier projection of a 12-round win for Pacquiao, the reigning pound-for-pound king. “I’ve been studying tapes of him (Clottey), (and) he’s not very good," he observed.

I'm Fighting For The Title Not Money - Clottey

Former IBF Welterweight champion Joshua Clottey has described his decision to fight Manny Pacquiao as purely for the title and national pride and not monetary gains as being speculated. He said his ultimate aim was to wrestle the tittle from the Filipino even though he was aware of the kind of boxer he was stepping into the ring to challenge, adding that fighting a boxer like Pacquiao was not only about strength and power but he would rely on his unique abilities to defeat him. “Manny Pacquiao is not a superman, he is just a human being like me and I promise to dethrone him,” Clottey assured Ghanaians when he addressed a press conference at the Ohene Djan Stadium in Accra. Clottey, who is ranked fifth in the welterweight division, explained that Pacquiao, who is ranked first in that division, did not agree to fight him because he was a weaker opponent, but rather how easy it was when it came to dealing with financial issues.

Early Insite into :Pacquiao – Clottey & Mosley – Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao vs. Joshua Clottey- On March 13, 2010, The Pac-Man versus The Grand Master From Ghana will truly be ”The Event”. This fight will go down to conditioning and will. Pacquiao is a fighting machine that storms in but can now also operate on you from distance but still with great force. Clottey is a walking shield that can walk you down, his jab alone and counter punching makes it nearly impossible to look good against. The only knock on Clottey is that he is not a great closer. Pacquiao on the other hand, is one of the greatest closers of all time. The greatest beauty of ”The Event”, is that Pacquiao is a fierce fighter that comes to bring the pain and Clottey is a fighter that can take the pain and still fight on.

Pacquiao: 7-wk training enough for Clottey bout

He only has seven weeks to train for his March 13 title defense against Joshua Clottey of Ghana but Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao assured everyone that it would be enough to get him geared up for the showdown at the Cowboys Stadium in Texas. Now on his second week of training at the Wild Card gym in Los Angeles, Pacquiao shrugged off concerns about the build-up for Clottey being shorter than his usual eight-week camps.

Pacquiao Spars Five Rounds, Looks Fantastic

In the eyes of conditioning expert Alex Ariza, pound-for-pound superstar Manny Pacquiao can do no wrong when he trains for a fight. On his second day of sparring at the Wild Card Gym of multi-titled trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao went three rounds with a former sparring mate who helped him prepare for the Ricky Hatton fight but whose name Ariza couldn’t recall although he said he was undefeated with a record of 11-0 and two rounds with Brian Brooks who took another beating and is likely to be replaced.

Manny Pacquiao kicks off training camp in high gear!

FightFan.com was behind closed doors in Camp Pacquiao earlier this weekend and observed the pound-for-pound king in an exclusive workout. The ‘Pacman’ kicked things off looking in tremendous shape for his first week in active training and together with Coach Freddie Roach and the rest of the team preparations for his March 13 fight against Joshua Clottey are well underway. Stay tuned for an upcoming article from Ace Freeman, more exclusive photos from Cherry Cervantes, and an eagerly anticipated new original short documentary by Ron Gabriel. Only on FightFan.com!

Knowledge plus Power: Evolution of Manny Pacquiao

Ace Freeman takes you behind closed doors in Manny Pacquiao’s January 2010 training camp to take a closer look at the man behind the growing legend. “Knowledge plus power…” the champ yelled out. “Knowledge plus power!” Those were the words that resonated through the silence in an empty Wild Card gym at high noon on this particular Friday in January 2010, as Manny Pacquiao began to glide across a fresh sheet of canvas. The Hollywood sun was peeking in thinly despite the drawn shades and it momentarily risked illuminating Boxing’s brightest star even more so than was already the case. His shadowboxing began with the absence of any shadows early in this training camp. I stood transfixed by his movements. It was not the first time I’ve been afforded the privilege of watching Pacquiao at work but I was indeed stuck with a new sense of awe at the specimen he’s become over the last four years.

Pacquiao-Clottey tickets selling briskly despite stiff prices

Tickets for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title showdown between Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines and Joshua Clottey of Ghana are selling briskly despite the tickets’ stiff prices.

The top seat tickets cost $700 while other tickets are being peddled for $500, $400, $300, $200, $100, and $50, something Arum believes will entice fight fans to fill the reconfigured (45,000-capacity) Cowboys Stadium on fight night.

Pacquiao hurts sparring mate

Filipino boxing champ Manny Pacquiao concluded his first day of sparring on Thursday (Friday in Manila) by dominating journeyman boxer Bryan Brooks in four rounds. “I feel good. I’m very well conditioned. My opponent was big. I did well against him. I’m happy and my coach is happy,” said Pacquiao. Roach said Pacquiao followed the game plan well during the four-round sparring session. He also said Brooks was hurt a few times while sparring with the pound-for-pound king. “[Pacquiao] did really well. He’s already following the game plan.

Manny Pacquiao Gives His Sparring Partner a Beating

WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao began sparring in the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California on Thursday. Under the guidance of trainer Freddie Roach, Pacquiao sparred with Bryan Brooks in four rounds. Pacquiao dished out a beating to Brooks, who was used by Shane Mosley as a sparring partner in the past. Roach says Pacquiao did some real damage in the four rounds of sparring. He battered Brooks good. The hall-of-fame trainer doesn't see Brooks coming back as a sparring partner in the future. “[Pacquiao] did really well. He’s already following the game plan. This was a good sparring partner for Shane Mosley but I don’t think I’m going to bring him back… he got hurt a few times. Manny was too much for him,” Roach said to ABS CBN News.

Manny Pacquiao Named Fighter of The Year By WBC

The World Boxing Council has named pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao as "The Boxer of the Year" following his devastating victories over Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton and WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto last year. The WBC saluted Pacquiao who has set a record of winning seven world titles in seven different weight divisions and as the First Diamond World Champion of the pre-eminent boxing organization and holder of the very first and historic Diamond green and gold belt. WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman made the announcement based on voting by the World Boxing Council, Mexican journalists and fans through the WBC website. Sulaiman said the awardees would be hnored in a special gala ceremony in February although no date has been set as yet.

Pacquiao vs Clottey, and Pacquiao vs Morales IV

Is there anything or anyone that can stop Manny Pacquiao these days? It seems like he’s on a winning streak for the ages now with the man who shares arguably the number 1 spot in Boxing’s mythical pound for pound list being afraid to step in the ring with him. Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s baseless PED’s accusations and extraordinary stipulations caused the March 13th superfight to fall through. Bob Arum has defended his prized ward very well, and has now turned the tables on Oscar Dela Hoya, calling for the once Golden Boy to “sign the PED waiver”.

Arum Very Impressed With Pacquiao's Workout

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum showed up at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles on Wednesday to watch his prized possession Manny Pacquiao train and said later he was “very impressed.” The pound-for-pound icon went through his usual routine as well as nine rounds on the punch-mitts without a break. Conditioning coach Alex Ariza told us that Pacquiao started his strength training and noted “he looked a lot stronger than he has been in the past and in some of the exercises it was nice to see on my part that it's like he’s not starting from the beginning.

Josh Clottey and The Solid Opposition

First noted are the reactions. With the mega bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao decimated by trivialities, both fighters have turned away from each other to exert their dominance elsewhere. It took almost no time for Bob Arum to step in and ostensibly brush over the disappointment by placing Welterweight contender Joshua Clottey in Mayweather’s stead. While Arum has undoubtedly overstated the attractiveness of the substitute bout, it is compelling enough to draw interest. Pacquiao should not be chastised for cutting the stalemate with Mayweather short. After all, the dissolution of the super bout didn’t see him off to graze leisurely in a field of lighter weights. Instead, he chose a solid challenger. And this challenger has a formidable hunger to succeed at the highest level.

Ghanaians rally behind Joshua Clottey

WBO Welterweight title challenger Joshua Clottey has received the full backing of his countrymen ahead of March 13’s big fight against Manny Pacquiao. Clottey goes into the fight as a huge underdog against the man who has won seven world titles in seven weight categories but Ghanaian boxing chiefs led by former world champion Azumah Nelson have reposed a huge confidence in the 32 year old Joshua Clottey. “My fear is that Manny Pacquiao is a southpaw because they are hard to fight but Joshua has given us an assurance that he knows how to fight southpaws so I am relieved. I will advise Joshua to train hard but I know him and I know that he will not rest.

Pacquiao vs Clottey can break US gate record

The Pacquiao vs Clottey March 13 fight has the golden chance of breaking the record for the biggest attendance in a covered arena in the United States as it has sold more than 20,000 tickets in just four days. “The public response is just unbelievable,” said Top Rank Promotions spokesman Lee Samuels from Las Vegas. “We are happy to report that since ticket sales started last Saturday [January 23] more than 20,000 tickets have been snapped up by boxing fans.” Most of the tickets already sold were the expensive ones, Samuels said—those in the $100, $200, $300 up to the most expensive $700 ringside seats.

Joshua Clottey Is Cleaning The Corner Floyd Mayweather Crapped In

Manny Pacquiao vs Joshua Clottey were standing underneath the world's largest high-definition video display in the world's largest domed stadium. All eyes were focused squarely on them and they knew it. So they smiled gleefully...at each other. It was a refreshing display of humanity between two fighters who were announcing their upcoming boxing match that's scheduled to take place at the opulent new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on March 13. A date that was originally reserved for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to face Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. But most people know how those obnoxiously inhumane fight negotiations ended up.

Pacquiao vs Clottey: A Great Showdown and Steroid Speculation

The Manny Pacquiao allegations still linger over boxing and the public is divided somewhere around the middle. It will not affect the upcoming pay per view showdown with Joshua Clottey. The show will go on and it will be very successful. Clottey is a great opponent…far better than Paulie Malignaggi or Yuri Foreman, two other considered challengers. Clottey has a much better chance to upset the “Pacman” then Ricky Hatton or Miguel Cotto did. His tight defense and consistency is something that Pacquiao will have to figure out. What Team Pacquiao is counting on, I’m sure, is the susceptibility of Clottey to straight punches. That straight left hand coming down the pike would do some serious damage to Clottey, or so they hope. Cotto was able to drop Clottey with a jab.

Freddie Roach exclusive: secrets behind Manny Pacquiao’s incredible physique

The third part of an exclusive Telegraph Sport interview with Freddie Roach, the LA trainer reveals that:

* Manny Pacquiao’s great physique has been built on “sports science and hard work”
* Pacquiao needs five meals a day and five protein shakes a day while in training camp because he loses weight so rapidly
* Floyd Mayweather “has never been the bravest of fighters”

Roach acknowledges the great work done over the past two years by conditioning coaches Alex Ariza and Teri Tom, who have created a dynamic programme for Pacquiao based on sports science technology. Roach revealed that the ’secret’ to Pacman’s great physique is the science, nutrition and work ethic combined, a combination of analysis, genetics and sweat and spit. The marriage of old school, and sports science.

Pacquiao camp off to better start than previous camp

It wasn't too long ago when we were hearing about how Pacquiao conditioning coach Alex Ariza slapped some manners into adviser Michael Koncz. And it wasn't too long ago when we were watching HBO 24/7 and witnessed Freddie Roach and Koncz showing their dislike for one another. In the previous training camp there were several incidents that took place that created a lot of bad blood within the team. It appears as if in this camp for Joshua Clottey the storms have subsided. Although it's still early, so far there have been no internal issues, no slapping, no public jabbing at one another, and no major distractions. Recently famed trainer Freddie Roach told this writer that the camp is getting off to a good start, " So far so good. Manny is in pretty good shape right now, we will get sparring started a little earlier this time around because camp is a little bit shorter than normal." Listen to the Podcast with Freddie Roach here - http://www.8countnews.com/news/129/ARTICLE/2252/2010-01-23.html.

Only 39,316 tickets to go: Manny Pacquiao beats Muhammad Ali, JC Chavez

The number, according to Bob “I Never Lie” Arum, is about 24,000. The probable maximum number, according to Arum when speaking to Steve Kim at Maxboxing, is 45,000. I say Uncle Bob is too conservative. I say he’s showing a real lack of imagination with his red hot and smoking Manny Pacquiao product. We’re talking about the Pacquiao vs Clottey WBO welterweight title bout set for March 13 at Jerry’s World, Mr. Jones’ swanky football playpen in Arlington. I say Arum is not shooting for the moon when he should be. They are calling this “The Event,” aren’t they? The head of Top Rank is aiming low by margins of 18,315 tickets sold and also by 13,891 ducats peddled. The magic numbers—attention Dallas Cowbys marketing and publicity machines—are 63,315 and 58,891.

Ariza Amazed at Pacquiao’s Power

Conditioning expert Alex Ariza who teams up with three-time “Trainer of the Year” Freddie Roach to prepare pound-for-pound boxing icon Manny Pacquiao for his fights, says he is amazed at Pacquiao’s power. Ariza said Pacquiao moved up from eight to twelve round on the punch-mitts with Roach and was “really good. Good power man, I’m telling you.” He said when I looked at his body it seems like he hasn’t been off from training since his November 13 WBO welterweight title fight when he stopped Miguel Cotto in twelve rounds at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Clottey Tabs Former Trainer Godwin Kotey for Pacquiao Fight

The two will reunite for March 13. Joshua Clottey is going back to former trainer Godwin Kotey of Ghana for his March 13 date with Manny Pacquiao. It's been nearly six years since the two last worked together but they'll be reuniting for this fight.

"Godwin is a very famous trainer in Ghana," said Vinny Scolpino, manager of Clottey. "This is the trainer Joshua has been asking for to prepare for Pacquiao. It will be Godwin who puts together our game plan."

Manny Pacquiao’s to do list for 2010: Beat Clottey, Destroy Mayweather Jr, Cement Legacy

2010 can possibly go down as the greatest year for Manny Pacquiao’s boxing career. In one calendar year, Pacquiao can defeat another solid opponent, destroy Mayweather Jr in the “Fight of the Century”, and cement his legacy as one of the Greatest Boxers of All-Time.

Beat Clottey
* “For the first time in a while, we have a fighter that respects Pacquiao. I don’t want to see Pacquiao end this guy’s career, but I do want to see him beat Clottey”… Gio Boone of Sacramento, CA. I completely agree with these comments. I want to see Pacquiao win but I do not want to see him end Clottey’s career. Clottey has been respectful of Pacquiao so far. He has shown a lot of appreciation for Pacquiao’s character and boxing skills. Here's a few quotes from Clottey about Manny:

Ticket sales booming for Manny Pacquiao fight

More than 20,000 tickets have been sold for Manny Pacquiao's March 13 fight against welterweight Joshua Clottey at Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and officials say there could be close to 60,000 in attendance on fight night. "The first days of sales for boxing events can be about 25% of the total," said Texas boxing publicist Lester Bedford, who's assisting Top Rank and Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in the Pacquiao vs Clottey fight promotion.

Ormoc prizefighter eyeing bout in Pacquiao-Clottey undercard

ORMOC CITY—A local boxer might play undercard between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey in March. Promoters are considering rising star Jhunriel “Quadro Alas” Casimero as one of the featured attractions of the much-awaited bout in Dallas, Texas, on March 13 after he won a major fight last month. This was bared by councilor Ruben Capahi, chairman of the committee on sports, when Casimero came home recently and received a hero’s welcome from Ormocanons led by Mayor Eric Codilla. He was taken on a motorcade around downtown, and shook hands and signed autographs at the public market and police station.

Ring hails Pacquiao as decade's best

The Ring magazine has named Manny Pacquiao as the best boxer of the 2000s. In its March 2010 issue, Pacquiao was listed on top ahead of Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe, Juan Manuel Marquez, Winky Wright, Shane Mosley, Marco Antonio Barrera, Rafael Marquez, and Israel Vazquez. Eric Raskin, The Ring’s contributing editor, wrote that “as far as we’re concerned, Manny Pacquiao is the only choice for number one.

Clottey is a Tough Challenge for Pacquiao, Frazier

"I think the Pacquiao vs Clottey fight is an interesting matchup. Clottey is one of those guys that a lot of people avoided because he's a big, strong welterweight, but he's also a defensive-oriented welterweight. So he's kind of a hard guy to look good against, but he's also a guy that takes rounds off. He's going against a smaller guy, so let's see if he tries to enforce his will on the smaller guy in this fight and if so, it could be a very interesting fight…All of those in the know understand that Clottey is a tough challenge for Pacquiao and anything can happen," stated boxing and MMA trainer Ron Frazier as he shared his thoughts on the March 13th clash between Manny Pacquiao and Joshua Clottey. Check out what he had to say about Pacquiao, Clottey, Floyd Mayweather, Shane Mosley and much more.

'Clueless' Manny Pacquiao should throw in electoral towel

When he is inside a boxing ring, the last adjective anyone would ever use to describe Manny Pacquiao is “clueless.” Under the tutelage of Coach Freddie Roach, Pacquiao has steadily improved and become the most ferocious and one of the slickest fighters of his generation. But, when it comes to political games people play in his homeland, some observers think that the Pinoy Idol is heading towards another fight he cannot possibly win, a second electoral thrashing as the “National Fist” seeks a congressional seat from wife Jinkee’s home province of Sarangani.

Manny headed for big box office hit

SOME 20,000 tickets were reportedly sold out within three hours after these went on sale Saturday. An indication that there is no letting up in Manny Pacquiao’s drawing appeal at the box office. When Manny Pacquiao meets Joshua Clottey of Ghana at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington Texas on March 13, it will be his first time after six fights to again appear before boxing fans in the Lone Star State of Texas. He already twice fought in the said West Coast state. The first was in 2003 when he annihilated Marco Antonio Barrera in eleven rounds to capture the imagination of mainstream American boxing fans. The other occasion was in 2007 when he dropped Jorge Solis in the eight round for the fringe World Boxing Council international super featherweight title.

Sparring mates will be key in preparing Pacquiao for Clottey

Los Angeles - Manny Pacquiao's next welterweight foe may not have the marquee name that past opponents like Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, or Ricky Hatton did, but Joshua Clottey is just as dangerous challenger. Clottey, 35-3, 20 KOs, stands five foot, eight inches, will not fade over the course of twelve championship rounds, and challenge Pacquiao at every second of every round with a solid straight right and the ability to throw efficient combinations. As training picks up for Pacquiao in Hollywood's Wild Card Gym over the next few weeks, trainer Freddie Roach will be in charge of selecting suitable sparring partners to prepare the Filipino icon for his battle with Clottey.

Twenty thousand 'Texicans' can't be wrong: They love Joshua Clottey

Things I Learned This Boxing Weekend:

1. Who knew that Joshua Clottey of Ghana and The Bronx is so immensely popular in the Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington Metroplex area that he could singlehandedly move 20,000 tickets in a single day for his March 13 bout at Cowboys Stadium against that Filipino guy? Wait until Clottey’s massive group of Mexican fans can get their hands on ducats! Maybe Clottey and the opponent will pack 60,000 into Jerry Jones’ football playpen, it could happen.

2. It’s kind of a career achievement to have my name defamed on Rapmusic.com’s chat room pages but I have to sign off when one poster starts his comments off by referring to someone he vehemently disagrees with as “nuthugger clown.” Such lofty discourse cheapens us all.

Pacquiao solidifies cash cow status; March 13 bout generating mega-fight response

He isn't one of Time Magazine's 100 most influential people for nothing. After only 3 hours, more than half of the 40,000 available seats for Manny Pacquiao's March 13 bout with Joshua Clottey at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas have been sold.
